Why do I read these comments?
“Well well well I guess it’s almost that time of the year when all the little Lance wannabe’s come out in their ugly little tighties and shiny shaven legs screaming for attention on the roadways and holding up traffic. I say make concrete paths on the side every highway that eventually lead them right off of a surprise cliff.”

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live in Charleston, SC. The first time I visited, I fell in love with the cobblestone streets, historic houses, and heartfelt smiles. Getting caught up in the day-to-day milieu of life, I tend to overlook everything about this little southern city that is so amazing. It was a perfect 70 degree yesterday and I needed a break from sewing, so I rode down to...
Only in the dirtiest hipster dive bar in town would the graffiti in the bathroom state “You bitches say what you want, but I can beat all your asses on a bike.”
The fashion editor for my last photo shoot was impressed … er, horrified? by how much gray I own. She thought it was funny that my outfits range from gray, beige, and dusty rose in color. What can I say? Isn’t my personality colorful enough? Kidding, I have a boring personality as well.
Bike Snob was poking fun at a bike I posted a while back. Perhaps one day I’ll have the honor of the guy lampooning my blog. Then, I’ll know, I’ve made it.
Speaking of stolen
Just found this on Craigslist:
“…if you have had your bike stolen in Charleston it may be recoverable. There is a brisk trade in stolen bikes on the CrackHead market…pawnshops are on the lookout for the high end ones and they send them to DC…lower end ones stay on the streets and will only be seen at night as the crackdealers course between Strawberry Lane and H ...
Stolen
Charleston has a high bike theft rate. We are asked to register our bikes with the city and sometimes they are retrieved, but most times you’ll see a homeless man riding your pink cruiser down King Street. In an effort to fix this problem, police set up a “bait bike” in the bad parts of town, unlocked, and nab anyone who tries to steal it. They arrested four people within 5...
100% chance of precipitation
Someone asked me last week how I commuted when it rained. In the 186 days since I’ve given up my car, I’ve never had to seek alternative transportation because of the weather. Here’s the secret: It never rains on the peninsula before 8 a.m.. I don’t know if it’s luck or actually something scientific, but if I know it’s going to rain that day, I just have...
Liberty of London
Have you ever seen a Liberty printed bike before? (Forgive the terrible picture, I was trying to crop it in such a way that didn’t include the big ugly cable it was locked to) Liberty patterned fabrics are one of the most recognizable printed designs and usually involve small florals. The patterns have seen a resurgence here in the US after Target collaborated with them recently. *

$1200 Furnished Room South Of Broad
“This beautiful and private home is in the best location near the water, yet quiet. Room has private bath, and house/ kitchen privileges. Yard, and 1 parking space. Bike included. Screened in porch with fountain.”
Bike included! Totally worth more than I make then.
Charleston artist, Scott Debus, just posted this on his Facebook page. It’s a mural he and a few other artists are working on for the Holy City Bike Co-op. If there’s anything I like more than bikes, that might be dinosaurs.
Welcome!
And thanks to all the new followers. That last post was my most popular to date. I should retire now, while I’m on top. But I like you all too much to do that. Have a lovely day!
Baby Shark: Ladies. Stop. →
Oh goodness, I’m sorry I said that. And now washing my eyes out that I’ve goggled that.
missmaralaena:
Actually there’s a whole blog dedicated to “Tea bags on Top Tubes” so yeah, there is males that slap their junk on their bikes and take pictures.
Ladies. Stop.
What are all these pictures of girls fixing their bikes in their underwear or topless? Or naked? Who does that? I like to keep chain grease as far from my nether regions as possible. You don’t see the guys slapping their schlong atop a saddle and taking some myspace angles pics. Have some respect and go kick ass on that bike instead of sexualizing it.
Losing followers in 3..2..1…
emilyraee asked: Heya Doll-
As someone who works at a shop, we sell a couple of ladies bikes more than any others- the Masi Soulville and all the Public Bikes step-though models. Personally, I like the aesthetics of the Masi's a little more, as well as the components. But, the Public bikes are more non-descript (as far as branding goes.)

Fashion Friday, wherein I interview myself*
So Erin, how did you get into fashion design? I think I got into this accidentally. At one time in my life, I had to attend multiple black-tie and white-tie events (conservative republican ex) and had to clothe myself for such events. The only full-length gown options out there were terrible prom gowns or $5,000 designer frocks. Neither was an option for me, so I started sewing my own. My...

Fashion is taking over my life.
I was playing around on the Republic Bike site and built this:
When I realized, it looked a bit familiar:
D’oh. Don’t worry. I’m not ordering a fixie. I’m just a sucker for 3-D bike mock-ups you can customize.
Bike props
Because I am ashamed and embarrassed by the sight of my poor beat up Fuji, I borrowed one of these Globe Daily bikes for a photo shoot I was in this morning. Yes, it had a wicker basket! Yes, it was new and shiny! Yes, I flashed everyone when I had to kick my leg over the frame. Seriously, my commuter has to remain a step-through because I like wearing short skirts too often and don’t...
Can I go back to bed?
Nothing like a 6am ride in the rain to wake you up.
davewellbeloved asked: I've been going through much the same for about a year now. Finally decided. Questions you've got to ask yourself are:
What are the main ways that you're going to cycle (commuting, shopping, around town, etc.)?
How many bikes can I store?
How much money have I got?
Trust me there's always going to be a new bike you...

Secure your scarf to your person or your bike will eat it!
Looks like I have some extra sewing to do now.
rhodeskc asked: Oh, btw, which Raleigh were you looking at? The Record Ace?
x-rayspectacles asked: Careful with the bikes it's a slippery slope I started with a commuter and bmx and now have 7 bikes in my apartment. The roommates dot appreciate it like I do sometimes though.
I’m about to walk into a bike shop with my tax refund and tell them to just give me something. I always hesitate so long on big purchases that I usually just end up dropping too much money on my lunch break because I want the indecision to be over. I went to the local bike shop today and stared at a steel frame Raleigh road bike and a Globe daily bike.
I used to wait tables with the guy...
Things I don't understand.
Road tandems. I don’t get it.
Pink
“Very rare 1983 Men’s Ice Pink Schwinn Prelude Road Bike in excellent condition. Campagnolo components mostly all original. $400.00 would make great fixie or fantastic collectors bike. Columbus Tenax lugged tubing. I have too many bikes - my loss is your gain.”

Bicycle clothing manufacturer Rapha has partnered with four masters of framebuilding to offer four distinct, hand-made bicycles for the next two years. This one, the Everyday commuter, was built by Chris King of Beloved Bicycles.
I love gray. It’s probably my favorite go-to wardrobe color (yeah, that’s weird). So, I love this. And then as I have to remind myself, just because...

(Yeah, that’s fashion friday)
I own a piece of plaid! Isn’t that exciting? I can grow a beard and move to Portland now! I mean, er, whatever!
I’m excited because I don’t normally wear patterns. All it took was a free bourbon tasting (noms on Blantons and Buffalo Trace ) at the store and catering from Husk to get me to try on this lovely top.
I really love Billy...
I’m amazed at how many really nice/expensive bikes are on Craigslist with the phrase “barely used.” Did they just get lazy?
I was going to write a prolific post about my Sophie’s Choice of road bikes vs commuters, but here’s a picture of me in a silly hat instead. (That’s my sleepy face.)
alexc1ted asked: well, the good thing about the bikes you'd be commuting on is they aren't as expensive! shimano isn't making any dura ace internal hubs anytime soon!(I think) bicycle mag did a sweet article on urban bikes.

alexc1ted asked: Sorry, didn't mean to sound confusing. But the way I'd look at it is, spend the cash on a good road bike up front, and get an every day bike that gets the job done. I commute on a fixed gear that cost me 100 bucks...but i'm trying to justify to myself buying a 1700 dollar road bike. So i'm in the same predicament you are.
